Kitty Hawk Map

Facts about Kitty Hawk:
The Outer Banks is a 200-mile long string of narrow barrier islands off the coast of North Carolina, on the east coast of the United States. They cover approximately half the northern North Carolina coastline, separating the Albemarle Sound and Pamlico Sound from the Atlantic Ocean. The Outer Banks is a major tourist destination and is known for its temperate climate and wide expanse of open beachfront. Kitty Hawk is a town in Dare County, North Carolina. Kitty Hawk was made famous on December 17, 1903, when the Wright brothers made the first controlled, powered airplane flights six kilometres (4 miles) away near the sand dunes known as Jockey’s Ridge. The aircraft carrier USS Kitty Hawk (CV-63), the B-2 Spirit stealth bomber AV-19, the aircraft transport ship USS Kitty Hawk (AKV-1), and the Apollo 14 command module have been named for the town.
